Open Enrollment Currently Open for the 2011-2012 Season!

Are you a girl between the ages of 10 and 17? Do you like roller skating? Love roller derby?

If you answered yes to any of the questions above, we're looking for you!

Junior Derby provides pre-teens and teens with the ability to learn about roller derby in a safe and empowering environment. Girls will learn the basics of roller derby, roller skating, and will eventually be a part of a competitive junior roller derby team. Unlike adult roller derby, junior derby will only include positional blocking which means less hitting and a greater focus on developing all the skills necessary to become a future Fairbanks Rollergirl!

So now what? Well, there are some things you need to know.

  • There is a $25 fee due monthly. FBXRG is a non-profit organization and derby costs money! This fee helps cover the cost of practice space, training materials and medical supplies. (Need-based scholarships to cover a portion of league dues may be available)

  • There is a one-time, $25 application fee. Incorporating a new skater into the ranks requires a lot of effort, time, and paperwork!

  • Participating in roller derby requires primary and secondary medical insurance coverage. You are responsible for providing primary medical insurance and mandatory secondary medical insurance coverage is available from USA Rollersports (USARS). Coverage is $40/year. More information here... »

  • Practice will be held Thursday nights from 6:30pm to 8pm at the FBXRG Warehouse and will run September through May.

Got all that? Great! Grab a pencil (and a parent). Here's what to do:

  2. USARS Application. Get it...»

Come to practice and check it out! Introduce yourself to Violent Iris or Rolla Ghoul, our fearless Junior Derby team leaders. They will be happy to discuss everything and anything with you. Forms along with a copy of your primary insurance card, a check to cover fees (application fee, first month's dues, and USARS insurance fee), and copy of a government issued ID (drivers license, state ID, passport, military ID, or official birth certificate) may also be dropped off at Interior Graphics and Printing located at 770 8th Avenue in Fairbanks Alaska.

Get some gear! Anyone who wants to skate needs a few things: a helmet, a mouth guard, knee & elbow pads, wrist guards, and quad speed skates (no inline skates allowed!). Skates may be rented from the Fairbanks Rollergirls for a $5 monthly fee or skaters are welcome to provide their own skates. Check out our links page for a great list of online retailers or check out some of your local sports stores.

Fairbanks Rollergirls has a limited number of need-based scholarships to assist skaters who may be unable to afford the full cost of Junior Derby dues. To be eligible for a need-based scholarship, please download the following form and return it to Interior Graphics and Printing located at 770 8th Avenue in Fairbanks Alaska.
